Gambling Shenanigans; Decoys, Whales N' Wiseguys.
Just when you thought it was safe to play a few dollars on a favourite or dog in the NFL, NBA, NHL, MLB, MLS?
Over the last few years, it's become more and more difficult to handicap sports and one of the reasons is the stacks of computers running simulated games for the bookmakers who can afford to run those kinds of interior math gigs on what they plan to place up on the BIG BOARD. You and me, small time Joe lunchbox dudes don't have the access to that kind of magic cash to pad our decisions on where to lay or take points.
Another reason is Whales and Wiseguys jumping in at various moments to juice up the board in their ultimate favour as you might have already noticed. I started noticing line moves that didn't make any sense in the last few years and began calling them "decoy bets". That "term" means somebody is trying to decoy the public or other Wiseguys and whales to jump in and cause actual line moves that the books will make to protect themselves from swelling and inflammation of liabilities on certain games. The decoy is set up to have everyone suddenly to pile on a game thus causing artificial numbers that they can OPEN up other accounts with and quickly and quietly sail the opposite way carrying them through to better waters and numbers that they can set up their bets with.
